Are you struggling with issues relating to menopause? Do you feel that things are becoming out of your control and what you have done up until now has stopped working for you? I am writing this to tell you that you can take control now and it is never too late to start. But first things first, let’s discuss a little bit about menopause and the stages of menopause. What is peri menopause? The first sign of peri menopause is usually irregular menstrual cycles but you can experience...More
Do endurance athletes die young?
I was recently listening to a Joe Rogan podcast with Dorian Yates a 6 times Mr Olympia. During the podcast he said “it is a well known fact endurance athletes die younger than the general public.” Stating it's from the years of prolonged exercise they do. Dorian Yates Instead he recommends very short (4 minute) HITT style workouts. To say this as a throw away comment, like it’s old news everyone knows is extremely irresponsible. Why women should lift weights
Words by Emma Jane Shail When I mention lifting weights I often hear, "will lifting weights make me bulky?", "or I don't want to get big and muscly, I just want to get toned". However, it's actually incredibly difficult to 'get big and muscly'. Emma goes running
I've always been one for throwing myself in to a challenge and Sunday 18th August was no exception. I took place in Relish Running's Two Tunnels Mini Challenge (mini is a bit unfair I think!) in Bath. 45 other people took on this challenge with others opting to take part in one of the events. The challenge involved running a 5k, followed by a 10k and then finally finishing off with a half marathon around Bath and the canal. Possibly the biggest challenge of the day was running the 10k in ti...More
Should you ditch the trainers?
A lot of us wear padded trainers to work out in. These cushion our feet. Some of us also wear shoes with an unnatural shape and that have a high heel. I have recently decided to try wearing minimalist shoes and thought I would discuss with you the benefits and possible disadvantages with daring to go bare. There are 30 muscle and 26 bones in the human foot making up 1/4 of all the bones in our bodies When wearing minimalist shoes our feet get the chance to flex and splay so they can...More
The New Renaissance Fitness
We've moved into something bigger and better. Renaissance fitness is now no longer a PT studio, but a fully functional 24-hour gym with a built-in PT area. Taking the leap from a bespoke training studio to a 4000 sqft gym with 4 separate training rooms certainly wasn't easy. Transforming into a 24-hour gym with enough equipment to please everybody took some hard toil, sleepless nights and a fair bit of blood, sweat and tears. We only had 2 months to transform the building, there were man...More
